Welcome to A Spoonful of Stories
Welcome to my substack! A place where I get to share most of my musings. As a Registered Dietitian I spend my work week counseling folks on how to improve their relationship food. Although I love a client-centered job, I often find little space for myself to explore my relationship with food. This substack will be dedicated to all the things that I enjoy about food whether it’s challenging diet culture or raving about my favorite restaurant. In addition to sharing my thoughts, I will strive to share content that sparks curiosity and conversation.
What can you expect on A Spoonful of Stories?
Food, obviously.
And hopefully lots of it. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite places to eat as well as my favorite recipes.
Stories.
What would a good meal be without some good conversation? I’ll also be sharing some of my favorite memories that explore identity, community, and relationships to the natural world. Is the occasional poem alright with you?
Food Stories.
This is where we’ll spend most of our time. On A Spoonful of Stories I’ll be sharing a variety of food stories- from food history, poems, nutrition information, food memoir, and critical essays exploring food justice- I can wait to talk about all things food!
I guess you’ll be getting a spoonful of everything!
If you can’t tell, I’m still figuring things out.
In all honestly, I started a substack because I was told to and not because I wanted to. After spending several years dabbling to food blogging, I learned that “putting myself out there”, “branding myself” and “creating engagement” takes me completely away from my creative process. So forgive me if this space is sterile for a bit as I learn how to set healthy boundaries for myself in a public online space.
While I figure things out, I will also be posting the same material to both my substack and my website aspoonfulofstories.com. Eventually, I will have subscriber-only material, but that is not my current focus.
Anyway- I am super looking forward to sharing my thoughts with ya’ll and creating wonderful conversation.
XOXO,
Stephanie
