darling - don't let our measurements misguide you light is just a traveler that passes once it places you the sun blinds breath from warming nights falling dew a baring kept in sight simply remains a view the compass needs no map my body was made sheltered from light sometimes I run into the sun just so I can hide.
For most of this year I’ve been exploring navigating blindly and exploring the abyss, inspired by Wendell Berry’s Poem “To Know the Dark”. This exploration has made me question how our dependance on light as a guiding tool has dimmed our trust in other senses. While the days have gotten shorter for the past few months and I’ve been “forced” to retreat inside, it’s made me explore what it really means to “hide”. While Seattle’s long summer sun feels catapulting, the darkness gives me no choice but to actually be with myself as opposed to hiding in plain sight.
I’d love to know what came up for you when reading this poem.
